Israel’s decision to cut power in Gaza is illegal, says UN

October 31st, 2007 by gambit32

The United Nations once again points out the obvious, and pushes for change from a country which tries to do its best by not really participating in the world community

The UN’s top official in Gaza will tell British ministers today that Israel’s cuts in fuel and power to the Palestinians violate international law, while the isolation of Hamas has strengthened extremism and started to drive non-affiliated moderates who can leave Gaza to do so.

As for how the United States will react? I’ve got a pretty good guess. Typically we use our permanent seat on the UN Security Council to veto resolutions critical of Israel or do not work in their favor [List of Vetoes]

Quickies Post

October 31st, 2007 by gambit32

Life’s been busy and I’ve fallen behind. Some of these have been waiting around for a while. There will be some larger articles today as well

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usHalloween decor draws fire - No, theres a media circus anytime someone does something like this, whether its what they think it is or it isn’t. Shut up, stop being an asshole, and enjoy the holiday. And people wonder why their houses get egged.

Cute Fluffy Lambs Sentenced to Death - When an overabundance of sheep can’t be sold, and risks hurting the ovine economy, what do you do? Turn them into lamp oil!

‘Haunted’ swing keeps rocking - “AN out-of-control playground swing has spooked families and police in Argentina.” - Apparently no one in Argentina is capable of noticing the kid leaning up against the set and moving it, which is very obvious in the video. Go Argentina!

Tax law: Are you eating those pumpkins? “The Iowa Department of Revenue is taxing jack-o’-lanterns this Halloween.” Thanks for sucking more fun out of the holiday!

Researchers allege illegal botnet activity is cause of Ron Paul support

October 31st, 2007 by gambit32

What do you do when a grassroots political campaign completely surpasses the support of any other candidate in the election? Even after a chairman from his own political party requests he be banned from all future debates. When he demolishes everyone else in online polls, to the point that he is removed from those (and future) polls after he gets too many votes, and then the media outlet releases a story saying it was skewed by text-message votes?

Simple! Hire an “independent researcher” to declare that all the hype is actually due to a army of millions of hijacked computers , and allude to the fact that perhaps this result was actually the result of a sold service.

Wired has the full article and its worth a read.

Starflight One: The Worst TV Movie Ever

October 30th, 2007 by gambit32

I caught it years and years ago, I’m sure on its first run in 1983. Starflight: The Plane That Couldn’t Land was about the worlds first hypersonic transport through the upper atmosphere. But theres a problem! It gets stuck and get get down! OMG.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usThrough lots of overused stock footage, they launch the Space Shuttle Columbia with some sort of accordion-airlock to attach to the airliner and bring the passengers home. But it splits, or explodes, or something, and a bunch of passengers die.  Even at 4, I figured at this point the movie wasnt worth continuing.

I’ve gone without a title to place on this awful movie since 1983. Someone from the Forums started a thread of “Post plotlines of movies you don’t remember the title to”, and I was set in an hour.

Now, to find a copy and not actually have to pay for it.

WordPress updated

October 28th, 2007 by gambit32

I just upgraded Wordpress to the latest version. Please let me know if you see anything weird.

I’m hoping this will fix my problems with embedded video, and also why I need to make sure certain posts are buffered with “.” I think its more a template problem than a wordpress one though.

More Slingcatcher information leaked

October 25th, 2007 by gambit32

Image Hosted by IMGBolt.comI’m very happy to see more information being released about the upcoming SlingCatcher. I could care less about streaming media from my PC to it, but I’m interested in using it to connect to other Slingboxes.

“SlingCatcher supports streaming from any Slingbox regardless of input video format”

My Slingbox Classic currently lives in Connecticut at my parents place. I haven’t had cable for a year now, and this is nice for if I need a fix of channel flipping. The only problem is watching it on another computer screen. With a SlingCatcher, I’d be able to stream it directly to my television instead. It even comes with a remote.

My only real concern over this is the price. Its expected the SlingCatcher will run around $200. Why? Built in hard drive, so you can copy files to it, and then watch using only the SlingCatcher powered on. Nice idea, but its more than I need. What they need to do is split the Catcher into different product categories like they did with the classic. Now they have the Slingbox PRO, Slingbox AV, Slingbox SOLO, and the Slingbox Tuner , each one with different feature sets. I’d like to see the onboard storage removed and just have a standalone catching unit.

October 20th, 2007 by gambit32

I haven’t got much for tonight. I figured I’d regale you with some quickie-links to bacon related items I’ve come across over the week. I just had a late-night “microwave bacon” snack, so this should hold everyone until morning
