Toowoomba Pasta finally found

November 24th, 2007 by gambit32

There is a HUGE update to this post: I got the recipe.  Click here

I was in CT for Thanksgiving, and to suppress my boredom I spent 3 hours driving around the general Hartford area looking for something to do. Since I don’t drink at bars, I don’t club, and don’t really have the spare $ to shop, I don’t know exactly what I was looking for

While the Silas Deane and Manchester area yielded no results, I found what I was looking for on the Berlin Turnpike.

There seems to be a lone Outback Steakhouse there which still has Toowoomba Pasta. My favorite meal of all-time.

A mixture of shrimp, crayfish, garlic, noodles, chives, mushrooms, and other ingredients; Outlook took it from their menu back in 2005. Its come back maybe once every 4-6 months, at best, and even then it depends on the restaurant.

To show my love for the entree? There was a point we were there 2-3 times a week, at $17 a dish.

To REALLY show how much I love it? Donna and I have met up TWICE now over the past year when we’ve realized theyve got it locally. Split the bill, friendly sit-down, everything.

Its just that goddamned good.

After our wedding/reception? We went home, opened some gifts, got dressed back into regular people-clothing, and went to Outback. Our favorite server even seated us, and we chatted with him; told him we got married 6 hours earlier, but the Toowoomba was worth coming back for as a “wedding dinner”

it disgusts me that they don’t carry it still

  1. BLASPHEMMER!@ YOU DARE VISIT AN OUTBACK AND *NOT* ORDER ONE OF THEIR FILETS?! WHY YOU, YOU… YOU… GRRRRR. I’VE GOT IN MY HAND, A SERRATED STEAK-KNIFE WITH YOUR NAME ON IT! YEAH!

  2. Some of us have a diminished sense of taste, so ordering steaks is moot since they taste the same as pork, lamb, or just a hamburger. We need to rely on texture

Why pay $20 for a slab of meat that basically tastes the same as a jennie-o compressed turkey meatloaf!

I rely mostly on sodium content now, and Toowoomba is actually one of the few things I can fully enjoy.

Direct your anger at Outback, not at me :)

I was so mad when I found out they pulled it from their menu a while back…but i just happened to go onto their site right now and saw that it is back on the menu!!!!!!!

    *cheer* !!!!!!!!!

If they do take it off they’re menu again you can still order it and they’ll make it for you…

  5. I’ve tried here (midhudson valley) and they refuse. if its not on the menu, they wont make it.

I only got them to do it once, because it was like a day after the new menu went into affect. Ive always called ahead before I go (28 mile drive), and I spoke with a manager that time who said that since it just went off the menu, they still had the ingredients.

I just hope it comes back more often. I’ll be driving by Outback every day on my way home from work soon, and it would be nice to stop and treat myself some night.

[...] Then they dumped it, and Ive been looking for over 3 years to find a decent recipe.  Ive tried with 4 other recipes, and nothing I could do to tweak them ever got close.   Every now and then, Outback will put it back on their menu, but that only happens once every six to nine months.  The last time I found it was around Thanksgiving, and I had to drive into CT to get it.
