One of many reasons I’ve given up on Slashdot

I gave up on Slashdot ages ago, mostly when they moved away from doing smaller stories, quickie posts, etc. When I’ve gone back, I’ve been completely disgusted to see how old the stories are. For a site that used to have updates within minutes of big news, they’re now posting things 2-3 days after it first breaks. Example: they JUST discovered the “Fark tries to trademark term NSFW“, which I posted here three days ago. As it is, I considered not posting it at all, because the story itself was 2 days old when I first found it. The only reason I did is because I had only seen it mentioned on one other site.

Patio pet door followup

I just wanted to make a quick followup on a previous post.

I’ve actually taken down the patio pet door I made back in this post. It worked incredibly well, but due to some poor construction on my part, the pet flap itself didnt always go all the way back down, so it would hang open. I walked by once and it felt like there was a fan on the other side of the door, blasting cold air through.

Considering I’m desperately trying to save money on my heating bill, this wasn’t acceptable. The cat boxes are back inside for the winter. I’m not thrilled with this arrangement, but its better than having sub-freezing air getting sucked into the house when I’m trying my best to save on heating costs.

When the weather gets better, I’ll open this back up and see if I can get that flap to fold back down how it should. I think its due to some extra strain on the plastic because the hole cut in the wood wasn’t quite large enough.

edit (12/11/2007): I’ve already noticed significantly less heat loss since I took this out. yay.
