Slingbox Update #2 from CES

Engadget and Gizmodo both start today off strong with 3 articles each on more upcoming products. Download Squad also has a GREAT article about the new Slingplayer 2.0. I’m so excited over this SlingCatcher, I’m just not happy with the pricing of $249.99 MSRP.

maybe I’m just dumb but what’s a Slingbox?
Its a device that you plug into your COAX cable, your vcr, digital cable, satellite tv, tivo, vcr, whatever, and it lets you watch your media at home while you’re on the road.
Say you go on vacation, but your Tivo at home is recording all your shows. If you have an hour free at the hotel, you can connect in to your home network, connect to the slingbox, and it will play your stuff at home over the network so you can watch it wherever you are.
Right now I don’t have cable TV. I had to cut back on some luxuries about a year ago, but I had a slingbox. So i dropped it off at my parents place in CT. I dont watch much TV, but its nice to mindlessly flip channels every now and then, or to put something on to fall asleep to. So I connect there every night, put on nick@nite and set my laptop on a timer to hibernate after 2 hours or so.
The slingcatcher, which is what I’m looking forward to, connects to your TV and comes with a remote. So you can stream stuff from a slingbox or a TV someplace else, to your slingcatcher, and have it output to a TV.
I love my slingbox to death, but the only thing that annoys me is I need to sit in front of a computer to use it. The slingcatcher takes the computer out of the equation.
ah
We never go anywhere, and we just suck it up and pay $75 a month for cable HBO, Cinemax and the DVR, but never a shortage of movies or mindlessness.
I figure we are active with all the skiing and such we can be couch potatoes sometimes
Or if you’re home sick, all those DVR movies you set to record and just haven’t watched yet
