I found it: The Toowoomba Pasta recipe

April 18th, 2008 by gambit32

As I’ve posted before, Toowoomba Pasta from Outback Steakhouse is my favorite food of all time. Outback decided sometime in 2005 to stop putting it on the menu, and adding $3 to the prices of everything else, giving us no reason to ever go back there. There was a point we were at Outback two to three times a week. They knew us there. One of the waitstaff used to take his breaks at our table to chat.

Then they dumped it, and Ive been looking for over 3 years to find a decent recipe. Ive tried with 4 other recipes, and nothing I could do to tweak them ever got close. Every now and then, Outback will put it back on their menu, but that only happens once every six to nine months. The last time I found it was around Thanksgiving, and I had to drive into CT to get it.

Someone over at Recipezaar came up with a near exact replica. They account for not having fresh crawfish available, but do note its a bit spicier than the outback dish. Thats easily taken care of.

I can’t recall if I ever tried it. I am generally good at eating something and figuring out what’s in it so I can re-create it at home.. we don’t eat out these days, but I am making fresh sushi tonight for dinner.. $25/lb for Tuna better be some fucking amazing tuna!

  2. I love seafood, but I dont usually eat it at home. I dont really trust my cooking ability. I’ll leave it to a professional to impress me :)

I can relate to your “pain”. Like you, my husband and I Went to Outback at least once a week to enjoy their Toowoomba pasta. We would even get an order to go and eat it at home. Once they took the pasta off the menu and raised the prices we quite going. I have tried to imitate it and have failed miserably. So I too beg for a recipe that will match it. I have found found one on a blog that might work for you. I think it is the closest I have found. I will, however, try the one you have found. Good luck on it and if you find any new recipes please let us know.

  4. Beckers, you want a kicker? When I got married, we went home, changed out of our stuff, opened a handful of gifts, then went to Outback for dinner an hour later. We drove along part of the same route that we took LEAVING the reception hall, so we got to see a bunch of the streamers and stuff that fell off of my car :)
Our waiter friend got a real kick out of that.
“Oh when did you get married?”
“… and why are you here”
    (both of us together) “Toowoomba”

I still make it a habit to call every couple of months and complain its not on the menu regularly.
