AFRO Softball 2008 - Most fun I’ve had in years

June 22nd, 2008 by gambit32

Today was the third annual AFRO Softball game in Hartsdale NY.  Its a time when members of the various Opie/Anthony/Ron/Fez radio show messageboards boards [wb,fba, rgf] and Paltalk get together for a massive picnic, bbq, and softball game.

I made it last year and had a blast.  This year topped it, by far.

I tried introduce myself and shake hands with every person I knew or recognized from the fanbase, but still couldn’t do it all.  Things happen you never expect.  I was lucky enough to meet TommyVan last August before he passed.  We lost others in the fanbase the year before that.  I hope this coming year will fair better.

Big thanks to Deb and Tim who did so much to make this year’s game a great success, to everyone who played, to everyone who brought supplies, to everyone who helped, and to everyone who showed.  I can’t wait for next year.

For anyone who cares, I have my gallery here and the videos I took here.  They’re awful, and I’ll make no excuses.  I did excise the pictures of myself in the collection, due to the fact that I have proven once again why I just flat out do not know how to smile in pictures anymore. They are saved in my personal collection; However, I believe if you pressure Gonzo or Buf, you might be able to find a similarly horrible photo of me in their cameras.

Overdue Memorial Day post

June 14th, 2008 by gambit32

(edit: this should have autoposted weeks ago… I dunno what happened)

People who know me, know I respect our veterans to such an extent, it isnt even funny. A few years ago, two comics took time out from their normal strips to honor the day. Most comics are one-and-done, but these I saved. I want to share.

Doctor Who and the fate of Susan Foreman

June 13th, 2008 by gambit32

Just a quick note here. One of the questions about The Time War from this latest incarnation of Doctor Who has been the fate of other Time Lords known to exist. The BBC Doctor Who FAQ which was just updated this week states

The Doctor is the last of the Time Lords. We’ve no details of any other survivors, including Susan, The Rani, Romana or Chancellor Flavia. Please don’t email us about this.

However, we do indeed know (in part.) In The Empty Child, Doctor Constantine remarks

“Before this all began, I was a father and a grandfather; and now I am neither”

The Doctor’s response?

“I know the feeling.”

Susan Foreman was the Doctor’s grandaughter. I can only guess she is assumed dead in the Time War as well. I personally think of it as a hunt through time to destroy the remaining Time Lords, like Vader’s quest to kill all the Jedi in Star Wars.

How else would those like the Master, The Rani, Susan, etc be potentially presumed dead. They werent soldiers, they were rogues. For them to be potentially killed in various time streams, they would need to be hunted down.

We’ve seen The Doctor wrong in the past, with the Master’s return after the prediction from The Face of Boe. Who knows. I’ve got my own predictions (which other also seem to have picked up on) on some of the arc words for this season. I’d like to see some of them answered this season, but I’m hoping they’ll drag this out for many many more.

Torchwood returning for Season Three

June 4th, 2008 by gambit32

Its not like I was expecting the show to get canceled, but its nice to know its coming back next year

Torchwood, the popular Doctor Who spin-off and anagram, will return for a third season, according to the BBC. Characters played by series regulars Burn Gorman and Toshiko Sato died during the second season finale — the last, dark touch on a year that saw the series grow more gritty and intense.

Right now, its only for a five episode miniseries.  I’m not thrilled with so few episodes, so I half expect the show to get dumped after this coming season.  I’ve enjoyed it immensely; hopefully if that happens, Jack will still appear in some Doctor Who episodes
