Quickie: G32 hat

July 30th, 2008 by gambit32

Rather than respond individually to everyone who emailed me from the last post (for the love of god, I have comments enabled for a reason): Yes, I have a hat that is labeled G32.  This is easily generation #5 for this hat, since when I have one I wear it until the stitching unravels.  Aard got me my first one, my sister the next, and I’ve bought (at least) three on my own.  You kind of lose count after some point.

So sue me.  I’ve had over 15 years with this nickname, and I’m damned proud of it.

O&A NYC trip: about as well as could be expected

July 29th, 2008 by gambit32

NYC trip went off … alright.  About as well as can be expected considering my luck.  I’ve been meaning to go down for nearly 2 years and do the walkover between the CBS studios and XM studios for the Opie & Anthony Show.  Its only a block, but then listeners are invited up to sit in on the bleachers and listen to the show.  I planned on then hanging around and sitting in on Ron & Fez as well.

Secret Show To The Future on XM 202

July 25th, 2008 by gambit32

This Saturday at Midnight, immediately following The Lazlow Show on XM 202: Secret Show To The Future.

In this latest installment, to top off the last 2 months worth of nonstop Back To The Future references, Anthony and Danny will be doing live commentary while watching BTTF in studio.  Listeners are encouraged to follow along, and to sync up their viewing with the show.  Steps will be taken to take the radio and satellite propogation delays into account.

Considering how the last Secret Show went, you can be guaranteed this will be nearly 3 hours of drinking, and by the end some pretty amazing inebriated commentary.  If you don’t have XM, you can listen online on their stream offering.  Its got a free trial that will cover you.

I’ll be signed in over on Paltalk and listening in whatever room is running a stream.  I’m expecting the live room to be open, but you can find me as ‘gambit32′ and I’ll invite you to wherever things are going down.

Here is Danny’s commercial for the show.

Come back Sunday, and I’ll see if I can get the secret show posted someplace…. secret … or someplace else secret.

Free telescope not too shabby

July 24th, 2008 by gambit32

My Celestron Powerseeker 50 telescope finally showed up about a month ago, and I got around to putting it together on the 20th. Its not the best, but I really can’t argue with free.  1400 coke points arent that hard to amass when your parents are caffeine fiends.

I’m still very twitchy and unsteady with my hands, so getting REALLY good closeup and focus was out oft he question. I was able to center in on Jupiter, and could see Io and Callisto orbiting it to its right. Then the clouds rolled in.

This is basically what I was able to see on the scope’s lowest magnification.  I was able to get this by using Celestia, going to Earth, setting the correct time, then doing a zoom to Jupiter.  It got it spot on.   I didn’t have quite this level of focus with twitchy hands, but this is def what I was able to see.  I’ll need to look sometime in the future for something with better movement and stabilization control.

I’ll try to get out there again when theres no moon and the skies are clear.

Geodetic benchmark in Wickford, RI

July 23rd, 2008 by gambit32

I was going through some old photos and found this. I was in Wickford with family, and I happened across this on a small walking bridge. I’ve come across other markers without discs, but this is the first disc I’ve actually seen.

It figures: The hottest one always dies first

July 22nd, 2008 by gambit32

And if you think I’m serious, you’re sick.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) — Estelle Getty, the diminutive actress who spent 40 years struggling for success before landing a role of a lifetime in 1985 as the sarcastic octogenarian Sophia on TV’s “The Golden Girls,” has died. She was 84.

I’ve had her on my Death Pool List at WRRV for years, but I try to mix things up every year so I’m not pulling a cut & paste game, and keep things original.  This was an off year, and Ive lost people nonstop who I have had in the past.  Fortunately, no one else has her this year either

Did Stephen Pastis go insane?

July 21st, 2008 by gambit32

Unless I am reading into this wrong, and I mean REALLY wrong…. I think Pastis just got a “my girlfriend sprays poop on me in my sleep” joke passed the syndicate’s standards and practices board, and right into todays Pearls Before Swine strip.  What else could he possibly be covered in?

Say hello to Stubs

July 18th, 2008 by gambit32

A friend on one of my cat communities has a foster kitty theyre trying to adopt out.  Stubs has been posted on a number of sites, and is at Petsmart weekly for adoption day, but no one is biting.  It seems all the people who are setting up meetings to meet Stubs are bailing on their appointments.

If you’re in or near LA and want to adopt a Siamese mix, please do me a favor and check out Stubs.
